DJ-Larry Love, born in the U.S.A. Unfortunately never been to Cape Verde, but has major
plans to get there one-day for sure. He grew up listening to Cape-Verdean music and it’s
on his blood from his Cape-Verdeans parent. His Mom had an old record player in a living
room that nobody was allowed to touch. However, she would let him in that room just to
play music. Playing old C.V. Musics’s on records, she would only let him plays the records
because he would put pennies on the record needle so it wouldn't skip. She loved that!
That’s what got him into music and this was before Hip-Hop was even on records.
Once Hip-Hop music got into his life, the whole music seen change for him. He believes
that people like DJ Kool Herc, DJ Grand Master Flash, Jam Master Jay and DJ. Red
Alert. They are the DJ's that made music different for him. It made him realize the many
options that can be done with Records. They are the DJs in his opinion that made
turntables an instrument, that changed the music seen, and put Hip-Hop out there and
made it what it’s today.
And today is what he is doing for Cape Verdean music, trying to bring it to the masses. He
believes that DJs are the main source to promote music and Artists. Let the DJ's play
them at nightclubs, radios and Mix-cd's before the CD`s released. DJ-Larry Love
understands the problem with Cape Verdean Artist not make it as a musician. Here is what
he said: “The new CD will come out and nobody even heard a song on that CD, so what
makes that artist think someone will buy that CD? So, his job as a DJ is to open ears to
our music old or new. On the Radio is to let the people know who the artists are and the
title of their songs. Most of the time as a DJ, someone will come up to him and request a
song, but don’t know the title of it or the Artist name, however, they can sing the whole
song. He loves the music and he admires the Cape Verdean Artists. Therefore, he promotes
them by playing their songs at same time let the people know who is the artist and where
they can possible buy their CDs. And the Radio & club is where he is and he is truly
showing the people who we truly are. He worked for another radio station for
approximately two years. He is one of the first DJ ever to play CV music on the radio in
Brockton, which led him to where he is at today the 96.5FM, and on the web www.
brocktonheat.com worldwide.
His Radio Show “Caminho di nos Terra” which means the “Way to our main Land” It’s all
about Music and our Artists. That’s it, No News, No politics, None of that... Just music,
you like to hear it, he will play it for you.
DJ-Larry Love understands the importance of music in our life and he believes that good
music will alleviate pain and stress… Music from Cape Verde Island, Artist Interviews
from all over the world, Tickets for Concerts, CD giveaways, Promos and plenty more is
